Biography
Mihai pursued his undergraduate degree (2013-2017) in Chemistry as part of the MChem program at the University of Manchester, graduating at the top of his class and receiving the University of Manchester Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. His masters research project was completed in Prof. David Procter's lab, working on SmI2 chemistry applied in natural product synthesis. He then joined the Synthesis for Biology and Medicine Center of Doctoral Training (SBM-CDT) program (2017-2022) where he completed his doctoral thesis in Prof. Martin Smith's lab on photochemical reaction mechanisms. Upon graduation, Mihai moved to Colorado State University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2022-2024) and then Research Scientist (2024-2025) working under Prof. Robert Paton in the areas of quantum chemical modelling and machine learning method applied to organic chemistry. Mihai was awarded the APART-USA fellowship by the Austrian Academy of Sciences to start his independent research at the Institute of Organic Chemistry from the University of Vienna, where he is currently an Independent Group Leader.
